The Veterans Memorial Medical Center- Department of Rehabilitation Medicine (VMMC-DRM) joined the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine in celebrating the 38th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week last July 18-22, 2016. The annual weeklong celebration’s list of events included free clinic, bone screening clinic, and lecture and lay forum on osteoporosis for the patients.
The free clinic was made available to veterans and their dependents and civilian patients on July 18 & 20, 2016 at the newly renovated VMMC Physical Therapy gym. Doctors from the VMMC-DRM provided consultation to patients during the free clinic. Access to free medications was made possible by the pharmaceutical sponsors during the said events.
Free bone screening clinic was scheduled on July 19, 2016. Dr. Paul Angelo Fermo, a 1st year resident, delivered a lecture on osteoporosis to around 75 patients in attendance prior to the bone screening. Lay forum took place after the lecture for clarification of patients’ concerns. The bone screening clinic was held at the VMMC Physical Therapy gym. VMMC-DRM doctors interpreted the results and guided the patients to the appropriate medications and therapeutic options needed. A total of 125 patients were able to participate in the osteoporosis screening.
